Bedtime stories for kids

69 short stories for children

Written with a young listener in mind, these stories take about six or seven minutes to read aloud, and many of them can be listened to as well.

In Mo and the Very Long Stairs, any child out of bed after lights-out shrinks to the size of a thimble, and Mo has three twisty flights of stairs between her and Dad’s birthday cup. In The Bear Who Counted Sheep, a very sleepy bear has to count twelve sheep into the barn before the winter, and one of them walks backwards. The Foal Who Set the Last Lantern is about a foal whose legs are always in a hurry, and the very last lantern of the evening.

Each one has a small problem that gets put right by the end, ready for lights out.
